Nominations are open for Jukebox Fest 2015, and the songs nominated so far have some really great stuff in them. So if you've been thinking of finding a spring fic project, you may want to check it out. ETA fixed markup

So, y'all should read the stories (plural!) I received for Yuletide. Item 47: Do you like Marvel movies? ) Revolution 9: Do you like the weird? )

Do any of you want my 1964-era GE Trimline Stereo 400 record player? Includes automatic changer, but needs (probably minor) repairs. I'd rather give it to a friend than sell it to a store.

Apparently the Coverthon (see previous posts) will be at http://coverville.com/live/ from tomorrow noon to Saturday noon.

My crazy idea is a go! We're sponsoring the 3-4pm hour on Friday, featuring Scott Johnson. The host, Brian Ibbott, is putting us there because it should be a popular hour. Thanks to my 4 co-sponsors! I don't know the streaming details, but I'll post them when I have them.

So, there's a podcast, Coverville, that plays cover songs. I've been listening to it for a number of years, and it's a pretty popular podcast. In a couple of weeks, they're doing a 24-hour coverthon, a half-fundraiser/half-benefit. They're offering hourly sponsorships, which give the sponsor the chance to have their business mentioned multiple times in the hour, and have a logo up on the stream.

My crazy idea is to have one of these hours be sponsored by the letter R and the number 7, as if it were an episode of Sesame Street. We'll be essentially anonymous to the show's listeners.

It'll cost some money (the total for a sponsorship is $150), but I can put up a lot of it, and I have at least one co-conspirator.

Anyway, let me know, by comment, email, or private message, if you want to be part of this. Or if you have any questions.

We were only on board to be the entertainment. The Batyscaphic Juggernaut HMS Bishopsgate was to be the prototype of an entire fleet of submersible craft, and for the gala maiden voyage, the ministry hired the men of the Pataphysical String Quartet and the four of us in the Ladies' Chamber Music Society of Lancashire. When monsters attacked the ship, it was because a helpful and courteous Royal Marines sergeant shoved us into Escape Capsule Amber that we eight survived. So when we arrived at this new and beautiful land beneath the waves, we naturally named it after him: Pepperland.

I don't have a PS3, XBOX360, or Wii, so I'm not in the market for the game itself. But man, I could watch the cinematic* all day.

I bet [livejournal.com profile] jadelennox that "More Than Words" is the skeeziest song ever to be #1 on the Billboard charts. If you like, please guess which song made me hand over the money, no questions asked, without even having a working definition of "skeezy".

Last year I posted some music I had generated by factoring integers. I've been thinking about it off and on since then and last night I got something that I liked.
1.1K MIDI 336K MP3 (Both are 14 seconds long)

The details )

I'd love to hear what you think!

ETA: I should mention that most of my changes amount to "do what [livejournal.com profile] mrmorse told me to."

1. I'm trying to place a song. I think it's a female singer, with a repeated "da da da" bit that goes like this:
(dots being dotted quarter notes and dashes being eighth notes)
c. e- a. e- | d- e- f- d- c- b- a- b- |
If anyone recognizes it, please let me know.
ETA: Recognized in like 5 minutes by [livejournal.com profile] greenlily! Thanks!

2. Blank Verse Blog Week starts a week from today on the 22nd and continues until the 29th. So get your iambic pentameter in tune!

Doing well. Very busy at work and with other stuff. I made a mix CD for my friend Scooter's 33rd birthday. If you'd like a copy, let me know. Got an iPod for Christmas, which has gottne me walking more. I will try to post more frequently in the future (though I'm not making a promise.)

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] joxn for introducing me to Jonathan Coulton's music. We went to his show last night at the Paradise Lounge. A good time, if frighteningly late for a schoolnight.
(He's coming back to Boston in December to hit Johnny D's with Paul and Storm.)

I am staying pretty darn busy. Work is busy, and involves producing electronic versions of reference books, which is always fun. [livejournal.com profile] lumpybeast and I spent Thursday and Friday evenings getting her classroom set up for the arrival of her students on Tuesday. (This was made more pleasant by the arrival of [livejournal.com profile] silkblade's entry in the Good Things Come to Those Who Wait mix swap.) We are both addicted to the very silly reality TV show Rockstar: Supernova.

Um, what else? Gaming, both D&D (playing, with [livejournal.com profile] temvald and [livejournal.com profile] tahnan running) and Buffy (co-running, with [livejournal.com profile] lorelei_sakai). Very behind on many other projects.

So last night I posted some music. If you want to try to figure out what it is, read that post, not this one.

For your enjoyment, some very odd music, in MIDI format.

The opening bars

An excerpt from later in the work

If you like puzzles, feel free to try to identify the source. (Knowledge of music may not help all that much.)

If you just like the music, stay tuned and I'll post more info about it tomorrow.
