More on Francophobia

This has been bugging me. It's just so absurd. Leaving out the catastrophic effects of a trade war with Europe (remember, it's a single trade entity, so we're not just pissing off France here) has anyone thought through this "we saved them in WWII so they owe us their support" argument? The USSR, based on a quick search, lost 7.5 million soldiers and 2.5 million civilians protecting the world from Nazism. Does anyone think that we owed them allegiance during the postwar period? That we owed them West Berlin? That we should have rallied to their side in Afghanistan? That we should now be lending them military aid in Chechnya? Then why is the simple "non" of France worthy of such vitriol? Sometimes I just don't understand les Americains.
