The Hobbit says this story exemplifies me the way the Japanese consul story exemplifies my mom. So I'm posting it:
Yesterday at 5:30 I was getting ready to leave work when I got an instant message from
jdm314 asking, in Latin, whether I knew much about Windows. When I replied that I knew a bit, he explained that he was trying to help a fellow Latinist in Italy (
jdm314 lives in the Midwest) install a font on his computer. I supplied some advice, and then he figured out that the Italian, Maximus, and I both had Yahoo IM accounts.
Keep in mind that all of this is still in Latin, as is the rest of the conversation.
So I get on IM with Maximus. We determine that he has Windows XP... in Italian. So I'm now helping, in Latin, install a font on an operating system in Italian. Which actually went pretty well. For future reference, the Fonts folder is called "Caratteri" in Italian.
So that's me.
I'll be posting a writeup of "The Bushel", the gaming mini-campaign that I just completed, sometime in the near future.
