1. Are there books that have had a particularly strong impact on you? What are they?
Definitely The Tao of Pooh and thence the Tao Te Ching. And Lizard Music by Daniel Pinkwater. Thirteen by Charlip and Joyner. And certainly Story Number 1 and Story Number 2 by Eugene Ionesco. The fact that as a child I had picture books by a major absurdist probably explains much about my current personality.
Sine dubio liber cui nomen Via Pui et illinc Viae Virtutis Liber. Liber c.n. Lacertarum Musica a Daniel Pinkwater scriptus. Liberorum liber artis c.n. Tredecim. Et certe libri quibus nomina Fabula Prima et Fabula Altera, quos scripsit Eugene Ionesco. Me puerum libros picturarum ab absurdista notissimo scriptos habuisse multum de mente mea explicat.

2. I honestly don't know you all that well. What do you think are the most important things for an acquaintance to know about you?
I am often contrary. I tend to take the opposing part of any discussion, if only to clarify the argument. And I'm willing, among friends, to make uncomfortable points and jokes.
Saepe contrarius sum. Personam advocati Diaboli gerere soleo, etiamsi modo hoc facio modo ut argumentum clarius videri possit. Interque amicis, incommodas sententias facetias loqui non nolo.

3. What language or languages that you don't currently know would you most like to learn?
Classical Chinese. Unfortunately, Modern Chinese seems to be a prerequisite, so it'll take a while if I ever get started.
Lingua Sinica Antiqua. Pro dolor, necesse esse videtur primum Linguam Sinicam Modernam discere. Haud igitur cito hanc discam, umquam si incipio.

4. Poof! You've got a paid month off, no obligations, no rules, and someone else will pay for whatever you do. What do you do?
How much are they willing to pay? If it won't break the bank, and if I can get the right connections, I'd go to Cambridge to try to get the original (17th c, I think) Latin translation of the Tao Te Ching published. Though there's probably obstacles in the way that a month and money would not defeat.
Quantum vult solvere? Si possim, Cantabrigiam eam, ut versionem primam Latinam illius libri cui nomen Viae Virtutis Liber in lucem edam. Sed certe mensis argentumque non sat hoc perficere.

5. What's your earliest childhood memory?
The earliest coherent one: I'm sitting next to my father, who is reading Green Eggs and Ham. At each page, I put the patchwork turtle I'm holding on his lap so he adds "or with a turtle" to the ways not to eat green eggs and ham.
