I'm not too worried about my 24 readers starting too much of a flame-war, and I enjoy people conversing about ideas, which is what I would find interesting. I certainly would agree that there is already a lot of baggage on the term "marriage" and I'd be just as happy if the term was stricken from civil law to be replaced with a term like "kwyjibo" or "civil union," (meaning "a union of two [polyamory argument skipped for now] people, permanent in intention, in terms of the law") leaving the definition of the term "marriage" to society and religion. However, I can't say I personally have any semantic issues with the application of the terminology of marriage to single-gender couples. We didn't have to come up with a new word when it became legal for people of different races to marry.
